The defining moment which inspired the creation of MA Vest-A-Dog was the tragic death of K-9 Cero, who was killed in the line of duty on March 25, 2000. He was the devoted partner of Deputy William R. Niemi of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office in Jefferson, Ohio. Read Cero’s heartbreaking story
Because of the tireless work of our volunteers and generous support from our donors, MA Vest-a-Dog is proud to have provided 700+ vests to the following Massachusetts law enforcement agencies:
• Local police departments
• County sheriff’s departments
• State Police
• Department of Corrections
• MBTA Transit Police
• Environmental Police
• USAF – Hanscom AFB
• USCG – Gloucester, Hull
Our mission is to support Massachusetts Police dogs by helping provide bullet resistant vests (our primary goal), essential equipment, funding for training, and purchase of dogs for police / law enforcement K-9 programs throughout Massachusetts.
Your support makes a difference.
While law enforcement agencies provide bullet-resistant vests for their human officers, they are unable to fund vests for K-9 officers. As K-9s are trained to give up their lives to protect their partners and all of us, we believe it is every bit as important to protect them.
A bulletproof K9 vest ranges from $1,900 to *$2,900 each (handler/dept choice). All K9 vests will also protect against blunt force trauma if kicked, punched, or struck with an object, like a bat.
*$2900 K9 Storm™ bullet/stab-protective tactical vest for Massachusetts K-9 patrol teams that are actively assigned to a tactical team or regularly train in tactical deployment.
